Located in the heart of Central park, Tavern on the Green is one of the largest and most elaborately decorated restaurants in New York City. A grand café overlooking Central Park, the 1,500-seat, six-dining-room restaurant is overflowing with crystal chandeliers, hand-carved mirrors, ornate tables and chairs, and stained glass. A gigantic and plentiful wall of windows surrounds almost every room of the restaurant, allowing guests to look out onto the park and gardens---beautiful during any season.

Built to house sheep in 1870, the building originally became a restaurant in 1934. Today it is the highest-grossing independently owned (Warner LeRoy, 1974) restaurant in the United States, with annual revenues in excess of $34 million and over half a million visitors a year.

The menu offers contemporary American and seasonal fare, ranging from cosmopolitan meat and fish dishes to pastas, sandwiches and salad. Favorite menu items include: Lobster Bisque with Taragon Creme Fraiche, Medallions of Venison with Haricots verts, Shitake Mushrooms and Chestnut Mashed Potatoes, Seafood Linguine with Shrimp and Scallops in a Lobster Tomato Broth and Filet of Salmon with Fingerling Potatoes and vegetables.

The menu is fairly expensive but not outrageous. Á la carte brunch, lunch, and dinner appetizers cost from $6.50 to $14.75, and entrées range from $13.75 to $33.75. A three-course fixed price lunch menu -$19.98 to $27.75, and a pre-theatre dinner menu - $26.50 to $32.75, are available Monday through Friday (exclusive of tax and gratuity; not available during major holidays).

On-premise parking available. $8.00 for the first two hours: $2.00 each additional hour. Includes 18.25% NYC parking tax. For more information, contact Westview Parking, 212.956.2280. Reservations are suggested, call: (212) 873-3200. To accommodate 20 to 1,500 in private function space, please call the private dining department at (212) 873-4111.
