Description:
The words 'New York' immediately conjure up images of unnaturally large buildings which combine to form the city’s trademark skyline. The World Trade Center and the Empire State Building are the cornerstones in this immense skyline, and a rooftop tour should not be overlooked when visiting the city from out of town.
If for some strange reason you have trouble locating the World Trade Center, it can be found at Church Street between Vesey and Liberty Streets. The remarkable 110-story structure is fully equipped with a seventy-foot basement that houses both a commuter train and storage facilities, not to mention parking accommodations for two thousand cars. Construction on the Center began in 1966 and culminated four years later. Today it is the home of numerous businesses and corporations and boasts a capacity of over 70,000 inhabitants, most of whom are employees of the aforementioned businesses. Of course, it is also quite popular as a tourist attraction, and the views of the city that are offered are absolutely breathtaking and not to be missed. Obtaining a tour is quick and easy, and the staff are extremely cordial and accommodating.
There is much to see and do on your tour. Of particular note is the observation tower located on the 107th floor of the building. This outdoor facility is studded with 'pay per view' binocular stations, and for mere pocket change you can tune in and check out the city on an up close and personal basis. Marvel at how the taxicabs look like Matchbox cars and the people are like ants. This is due to the fact that you are one hundred and seven stories off the ground. Go after dark if you can; you’ll thank me later.
If the weather permits, you are in for a special treat, as you will be granted access to the very top of the building, where more binocular stations and extreme vertigo await you. The edges of the building are, of course, extremely marked and safeguarded, but it’s still very eerie. Do check it out.
