This adaptation of the animated Disney film was the winner of six Tony awards in 1998, including awards for Best New Musical, Choreography, and Direction. Directed by Julie Taymor, this production uses puppetry, costumes, and a cast of 46 to tell the story of Simba, the baby lion that grows to be king of the jungle. It's terrific for children and parents alike. The quality of the musical took a lot of audience members and critics by surprise. This is not merely a campy version of the movie, but rather a very dramatic and spellbinding interpretation of the Disney film that completely stands on its own. Highly recommended for a weekend outing with the entire family.
